Jefferson Science Associates is currently accepting nominations for the 2017 JSA Thesis Prize. For a thesis to be nominated, it must have been completed during calendar year 2017 or during the last quarter of 2016 (if not previously submitted), and it must be based on some aspect of the research program or science conducted at Jefferson Lab.
The deadline for submitting nominations is 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Feb. 16, 2018.
A complete package requires:
- A nomination letter by a senior scientist giving the name and institution of the person being nominated, and the names of the three people who will send letters of recommendation
- A copy of the thesis
- The three letters of recommendation also must be sent before the deadline. (It is up to the nominator and the candidate for the prize to follow up on this.)
- All materials must be submitted electronically to Lorelei Carlson (lorelei@jlab.org)
Criteria for evaluating the theses include the written thesis, the contribution of the student to the work, and the work’s contribution to the Jefferson Lab physics program and/or physics community.
The prize will be awarded at the Annual Users Group meeting to be held at Jefferson Lab, in Newport News, Va., June 18-20, 2018.
Jefferson Lab employees are not eligible for this award. JSA employees and individuals receiving other support from the 2018 JSA Initiatives Fund are not eligible for this prize.
This prize is supported by the JSA Initiatives Fund Program, a commitment from the JSA owners, SURA and PAE Applied Technologies. Initiatives Funds support programs, initiatives, and activities that further the scientific outreach, promote the science, education and technology of Jefferson Lab and benefit the lab's extended user community in ways that complement the lab's basic and applied research missions.
