Fitness Center Safety and Hygiene Reminders

All Jefferson Lab staff and visiting scientists, 18 years of age and older, may use the Fitness Center located in Room 2558 in the Technology and Engineering Development building, Bldg. 55. It is open for use seven days a week from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.

The room features equipment for cardio and strength training and has equipment to play exercise videos. Cardio equipment includes a treadmill, two elliptical machines, a stationary bike and a rowing machine. Strength equipment includes a functional trainer, shoulder press, leg extension/leg curl machine and dumbbells.

When using the facility, please read and heed equipment-use instructions and all posted notices.

To keep the equipment in safe and good working condition:

  • Don’t use equipment if it is broken.
  • Report all broken or non-performing equipment by calling ext. 7400.
  • Return all equipment to its place when done using it.

Attention to hygiene on and around the fitness equipment is also very important. While housekeeping empties the waste baskets, wipes down the machines and cleans the floor twice each week (Mondays and Thursdays), it is important that everyone using the room does their part in keeping the room and the equipment clean.

  • Individuals must wipe down any equipment that they use. A large canister of disinfecting wipes is provided for wiping down the equipment. (Individuals who sweat heavily may want to bring in a towel for their personal use. Excessive sweat can create slip hazards on some equipment and on the floor.)

Use of the facility is at an individual’s own risk. Everyone should consult their physician before beginning any exercise program. If an injury or health emergency occurs in the Fitness Center, call 911.
