Help save energy and protect the environment
The power outage in the northeastern and midwestern US states should serve to remind us just how dependent we are on energy. As consumers, we can do many things in our home and at work that help reduce energy use and protect the environment (as well as save money).
- Turn off lights and appliances when you leave a room. (For a free 'Power Down on Energy' poster, contact EH&S Reporting.)
- Cool and heat smartly — have your system checked yearly. You can also install an Energy Star® programmable thermostat so you're not paying to heat/cool your home when you.re not there.
- Use energy-efficient appliances and compact fluorescent lighting.
- Put your home to the test by finding out where your home has room for improvement.
- Reduce energy consumption in your home by up to 30% - purchase products having the Energy Star® label.
