Colonial Williamsburg Evening Walking Lantern Tour
Tuesday evening, September 20, 2005

Buses will depart at 6:45pm from the Crowne Plaza Fort Magruder Inn for a one-hour walking tour. A costumed interpreter, using a lanthorn to light the way, will lead the group through the Historic Area, giving a brief history of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and an introduction to eighteenth-century life in Virginia.

Jamestown Settlement Tour
Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2005

Groups will board buses for an afternoon tour of the historic Jamestown Settlement. Within hailing distance of Jamestown's original site, three tall-masted ships lie at anchor in the James River. A discovery area that explores the role of waterways in 17th century commerce and travel lies between the riverbank and a re-created colonial fort. Beyond the fort, whose wood palisade encircles wattle-and-daub buildings, smoke wafts from reed-covered dwellings of a Powhatan Indian village. This is Jamestown Settlement - as close as you are ever likely to get to the sights and sounds that Captain John Smith, Pocahontas, Jamestown's colonists and the Powhatan Indians encountered in the early years of the 17th century.

Visitors are required to wear long-pants and closed-toe shoes and must be able to walk down and up two flights of stairs. The FEL accelerator vault and user labs will be open for the tour. Cameras are welcome.
