Photo of the Week, January 21, 2019

Lev Landau, the theoretical physicist and winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize, was born on January 22, 1908. Landau made various contributions to the theory of neutrinos, among other areas of physics. Our photo features Bob McKeown, who was an honoree at the 2016 Breakthrough Prizes, which honor achievements in science and math. Bob was recognized for his contributions to the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment and the KamLAND Collaboration, which resulted in discovery and exploration of neutrino oscillations. The Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power reactors, pictured here behind Bob McKeown, are located roughly 55 kilometers from Hong Kong.
