Rebooting the IOC

The are two basic ways to reboot the IOC: a ``soft'' reboot, and a ``hard'' reboot (or reset). In either case, the EPICS control parameters must be RESTORED to the IOC following a reboot. The RESTORE procedure is described in Sec. 5.7.

The most sure may to reboot the IOC is by using the Hall C IOC Reset Screen in the control room. This is a ``hard'' reboot as it literally resets the power to the IOC. The Reset Screen allows the user to reset any or all of the numerous IOCS located in Hall C.

A ``soft'' reboot may be issued from the EPICS Reboot GUI (Sec. 5.7). This is normally utilized by developers to update the control software on the IOC. The soft reboot issues the VxWorks command reboot() directly to the IOC. Obviously this will not work if communication is lost to the IOC (ie the IOC has ``crashed'').
