DIS 2011 offers attendees several options for Wednesday afternoon April 13.
1) JLab Tour
A guided tour of JLab facilities will be arranged for interested workshop attendees. Specific tour stops will depend on the current operational schedule and status of the machines. Transportation to and from Jefferson Lab will be available. Advance sign-up through the registration page is required. There is no charge for this tour.
Bus transportation will be available to take attendees to the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. The bus will bring people back at the end of the afternoon, in time to get ready for the evening group dinner at the hotel. In between, everyone is free to enjoy the many attractions of this historic area on their own. Savor lunch at one of the many restaurants, buy a ticket to tour the historic buildings, go shopping, or just dawdle through the shaded streets and graceful spring gardens.
There is no charge for the bus. Advance sign-up through the registration page is required. Space is limited, so if you sign up and then decide not to go, please let the workshop organizers know. Williamsburg's historic district is pedestrian-friendly. A car is not necessary once the bus drops you off.
3) Attendees with their own transportation can explore other area attractions such as the Mariners' Museum and Virginia Living Museum (both in Newport News), the Virginia Area and Space Center (Hampton), Jamestown, the Colonial Parkway and Yorktown, as well as Williamsburg.
