eg6 Run Period

E07-009: Meson spectroscopy in the Coherent Production on 4He with CLAS

E08-024: Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering off 4He

There are two experiments running parallel in this run period, E07-009 and E08-024. Experiment E07-009 will search for rare particles called exotic hybrid mesons. These hybrids will contain the building blocks of ordinary protons and neutrons, quarks, held together by the strong force. This study will be used to shed light on exotic mesons, which are a focus of a key experiment planned for Jefferson Lab's new Hall D following the 12 GeV upgrade. The goal of E08-024 is to investigate the internal structure of the helium-4 nucleus, which contains two protons and two neutrons. The measurements will provide new insight into how the strong force that binds quarks together extends beyond the boundaries of protons and neutrons to influence the structure of the nucleus.

Both experiments require running with the highest beam energy available to Hall B. The experimental setup includes Hall B's CLAS detector complemented with the the inner calorimeter (IC), scintillation hodoscope (SH), superconducting solenoid magnet, and a new radial time projection chamber (RTPC).
