Richmond Bucket List (Before you go...)

Kayaking on the James River
The James River passes through the heart of Richmond and offers both restful flatwater as well as heartā€pumping class IV rapids to entice river users of all abilities. This distinguishes the Richmond Region as the only urban setting with Class IV rapids.

Visit the Virginia State Capitol
Designed by Thomas Jefferson, the Virginia Capitol is the oldest continuously operating legislature in the Western Hemisphere. It is also the first public building in the New World to be constructed in the Monumental Classical style and has been used as the inspiration for countless capitols, churches, courthouses and municipal buildings.

See the Hollywood Cemetery
Open from 8am-5pm daily, the Hollywood Cemetery is known for its natural and architectural beauty with paths that wind through the 135 acres of valleys, hills and stately trees. It is the final resting place of two American presidents, six Virginia governors, two Supreme Court justices, twenty-two Confederate generals and thousands of Confederate soldiers.

Walk Monument Avenue
A perfect example of the Grand American Avenue planning style, Monument Avenue is a sight to behold. Along a tree-lined grassy mall that divides the east- and westbound sides of the street you will pass statues memorializing Virginian Confederate participants of the Civil War such as; Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, Jefferson Davis, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and more. Mixed in with these statues are numerous beautiful shops and historical buildings to explore.

Shop along Shockoe Slip
