Catch Jefferson Lab's entertaining, educational Cryogenics Demonstration at the Virginia State Fair

Jefferson Lab, located in Newport News, Va., will feature its popular Cryogenics Demonstration daily from Sept. 23 through Oct. 3 at the State Fair of Virginia at the Richmond Raceway Complex in Richmond, Va.

Jefferson Lab will be on stage in the Commonwealth Technology Center building that adjoins the main Exhibition Hall: Sunday through Thursday at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Children and adults will explore the wonders of cryogenics (the super cold) as JLab scientists and technicians demonstrate what happens when everyday items like flowers and balloons are submerged in liquid nitrogen (-320 degrees F), and learn more about Jefferson Lab.

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, is a nuclear physics research facility providing an international research community with experimental capabilities and research opportunities that are unique in the world. Funded by the DOE Office of Science, JLab's basic mission is to expand the understanding of the structure of matter and the forces that hold the atom's nucleus together. Jefferson Lab's accelerator acts as a large microscope, using electrons to probe the nucleus of the atom. The Lab is also home to the world's most powerful Free-Electron Laser.
