Title: Trapped ion quantum computing

Abstract: Quantum computers have the potential to make a significant impact on the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Bioengineering, and Finance; but what can a quantum computer actually do, and how does it do it? I will demystify some of these claims and give a detailed overview of the technical capabilities required for quantum computing. In particular, I will focus on trapped ions as an exemplary system. Finally, I will provide a brief overview of some recent developments in the field of trapped ion quantum computing.
