DOE Recognizes Excellence in Sustainable Acquisition

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Jefferson Lab has been awarded a Gold level GreenBuy Award from the Department of Energy’s Office of Sustainable Environmental Stewardship for meeting leadership goals for 11 products in 5 different categories and achieving excellence in sustainable acquisition.

Under the GreenBuy Award Program, national laboratories are recognized for purchasing programs that obtain sustainable products, save energy, conserve water, and reduce health and environmental impact extending beyond minimum compliance requirements in “green purchasing.” By participating in this program, Jefferson Lab leverages the Federal government's purchasing dollars to achieve mission goals while improving the marketplace for greener products and reducing the environmental impact of the DOE operations.

“It is very gratifying to receive this gold level award because it represents continuous improvement in sustainable acquisition,” says Mary Logue, Jefferson Lab Associate Director for Environment, Safety, Health and Quality. “Meeting these goals required teamwork and dedication between the Jefferson Lab Site Office and our procurement and EHS professionals.”

This achievement is recognized with an award certificate provided by the DOE Green Council.
