  • NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Harris Power & Equipment, based in Yorktown, has been recognized as Jefferson Lab's Outstanding Small Business Subcontractor of the Year for 2010.

    R. Dudley Harris, company president, and several Harris employees who regularly carry out contract work at Jefferson Lab, attended an awards ceremony at the laboratory on April 21. He accepted the award, saying, "Being chosen to receive this award means a lot to us. We appreciate this recognition and your business.   • Two scientists, Pavel Evtushenko and Jozef Dudek, have won highly coveted awards totaling $3.25 million from the U.S. Department of Energy, joining a select group of just 65 individuals, including 21 from national laboratories, to win an award this year. The Early Career Research Program was created last year by the DOE’S Office of Science to bolster the nation's scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during their early career years, a crucial time when many scientists do their most formative work.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A noted scientist will discuss some of the world's deadliest viruses as guest speaker at Jefferson Lab's Fall Science Series lecture to be held at the lab on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

    Susan Fisher-Hoch, a virologist and epidemiologist from the University of Texas School of Public Health will present: Studying Deadly Diseases.

  • Newport News, Va. - The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is installing a severe weather warning siren on its campus and will test the system for the first time on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 6. Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren could be heard by anyone outdoors within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - A Jefferson Lab scientist has received a prestigious national award from the U.S. Department of Energy that recognizes his leadership role in research and development in support of the department and its missions.

    Matt Poelker, a scientist with Jefferson Lab's accelerator division, was one of just nine winners of a 2011 Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award. Each winner receives a gold medal, a citation and $20,000. They also will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, DC, early next year.
