    Design Tools

    This folder contains material property information and design tools developed by the Magnet Group. It is presently restricted to Magnet Group members.

  • Jefferson Laboratory benefits from organizing and centralizing sufficient superconducting and resistive magnet expertise to support existing and future magnets at the lab. The Magnet Group is a Technical Support Group within the Experimental Nuclear Physics Division which fulfills this role.

  • Exploring the Nature of Matter

    Scientists from across the country and around the world come to Jefferson Lab to advance mankind's understanding of the atom's nucleus. To probe nuclei, scientists use continuous beams of high-energy electrons from the lab's Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility, or CEBAF, as well as technologically advanced targets, unique particle-detection systems and ultra-high-speed data acquisition equipment in CEBAF's four experimental halls.  

  • Fermilab launched a quantum program in 2017 to explore the overlaps between quantum science and technology and the lab’s primary mission of high energy physics. These overlaps include areas where Fermilab expertise and infrastructure contribute to the larger QIS ecosystem, such as applications of SRF accelerator technology for quantum devices, as well as exploring how quantum sensors and quantum computers can contribute to advancing fundamental science. Quantum sensors are now enabling the launch of new experiments, including MAGIS-100, the world’s first 100-meter scale cold atom gradiometer, aimed at detecting gravity waves and wavelike dark matter.
