These third party applications often have a difficult time setting up connections with wireless here at Jefferson Lab (JLab). Windows Vista / 7 Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located in the system tray Select 'jlab' from the available Wireless Network Connections Click the 'Connect' button Enter your Jefferson Lab username and password in the authentication box If a window opens, click Connect Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located in the system tray Click on Open Network and Sharing Center Click Manage wireless networks Right click 'jlab' in the network list and select Properties Click the tab labled Security and ensure the settings are as follows: Security type: WPA2-Enterprise Encryption type: AES Authentication method: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) Select Settings and ensure the settings are as follows: Validate server certificate is checked Scroll through the Trusted Root Certification Authorities and make sure the following entries are checked: VeriSign Trust Network (could be multiple entries) VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5 Select Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and then click the Configure... button If this is a jlab owned machine and you are logged onto it using your Jefferson Lab username and password, check the box. If this is a personal machine leave the box unchecked. Click OK Click OK Check the box for Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged in Click OK Windows XP Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located in the system tray Select 'jlab' from the avaible Wireless Network Connections Click the 'Connect' button Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located in the system trap and select View Available Wireless Networks. Click Change advanced settings under Related Tasks. In the dialog box, select the Wireless Networks tab. Select jlab or jlab_secure and click the Properties button. Select the Authentication tab and click on the Properties button under the EAP type pulldown menu. Select Properties and scroll through the Trusted Root Certification Authorities and make sure the following entries are checked: VeriSign Trust Network (could be multiple entries) VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5 Select Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and then click the Configure... button If this is a jlab owned machine and you are logged onto it using your Jefferson Lab username and password, check the box. If this is a personal machine leave the box unchecked. Click OK Click OK in the Protected EAP Properties window. Click OK in the jlab_secure or jlab Properties window. Click OK in the Wireless Network Properties window. A message will be displayed over the Wireless Network Connection icon, click it and fill in the folowing: User Name: your JLab username Password: you JLab password Logon domain: JLAB Click OK Once this is complete, you will need to register your device in the Machine/Device Registration database and wait while the network adds your hardware address to the list of approved machines. Troubleshooting Connection Problems If you are not obtaining any connection or cannot connect to 'jlab' please follow these steps in order to resolve the issue. Windows Vista / 7 Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located in the system tray Click on Open Network and Sharing Center Click Manage wireless networks If 'jlab' is listed under Networks, select it and click the remove button (make sure to scroll through the entire list and remove all 'jlab' entries) Exit out of the Network window completely Windows XP Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon located in the system trap and select View Available Wireless Networks. Click Change advanced settings under Related Tasks. In the dialog box, select the Wireless Networks tab. Remove all 'jlab' networks within the Preferred networks box (make sure to scroll through the entire list and remove all 'jlab' entries) Click OK After performing these steps please follow the steps at the top of the page for Adding a Wireless Connection.
