How to Partner with Us

Jefferson Lab partners with industry, state and local agencies, as well as other federal organizations to accomplish research and strategic projects that align with our mission. We have several vehicles for partnership, depending on the goals and needs of your project. Learn more about each one below.

Partner Interest Form

Cooperative Research and Development Agreements

A Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) is a collaborative research agreement between Jefferson Lab and public and/or private entities for the mutual benefit of the parties. Partners must provide research funds or in-kind contributions such as personnel, services, facilities, equipment, intellectual property or other resources.  A CRADA offers the partners certain benefits around retaining intellectual property and to access intellectual property that may be developed over the course of the collaboration.

Strategic Partnership Projects

Strategic Partnership Projects (SPPs) are work performed by Jefferson Lab employees for businesses and other nonfederal entities using highly specialized or unique DOE facilities, services or technical expertise.

Our Joint Appointment program facilitates research collaborations between Jefferson Lab and university staff. Joint appointees develop or conduct research and development at both our lab and the research institution.

Jefferson Lab has a portfolio of over 180 patents. Our intellectual property centralizes on accelerator technologies, data science, cryogenics, and other potential applications related to healthcare, novel materials, and more. Browse our patents available for licensing on the Lab Partnering Service.

Small Business Innovation Research / Small Business Technology Transfer

Jefferson Lab is proud to support small and startup businesses as they test and validate solutions to big problems. Small businesses looking for research and development support are encouraged to consider SBIR/STTR funding opportunities where we can provide subject matter expertise, technical implementation, testing, or other resources.
