- Probing the Proton's Weak Side Scientists know that the sun gets its shine through the actions of a little-understood fundamental force of nature called the weak force. But there’s a lot that they don’t know about the weak force. So for the first time, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Jefferson Lab are trying to precisely measure the weak force's grasp on the ubiquitous proton.
