NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility hosts its next Science Series lecture on Tuesday, Feb. 9, with a talk by Chad Orzel, a physics professor and author of popular science books and blogs.
His books, “How to Teach Physics to Your Dog” and “How to Teach Relativity to Your Dog” explain modern physics through imaginary conversations with his German shepherd, Emmy. His most recent book, “Eureka: Discovering Your Inner Scientist”, explains how we use the process of science in everyday activities.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- Several hundred young women – from across the country – will gather Jan. 15-17 to learn about many career and research opportunities available in fields associated with physics. They will be attending one of nine regional events, dubbed the Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP), taking place from Virginia to California and from New York to Texas.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will conduct the monthly test of its tornado warning siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8. Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren could be heard by anyone within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.
The test will be carried out over a period that could last up to three minutes. The test will be of the wavering tone (also called high-low-high or 10-4-10).

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The newly upgraded accelerator at the U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has delivered full-energy electrons as part of commissioning activities for the ongoing 12 GeV Upgrade project. At 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, operators of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) delivered the first batch of 12 GeV electrons (12.065 GeV) to its newest experimental hall complex, Hall D.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Bill Rainey, an employee of Jefferson Lab was recognized by Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz in Washington, D.C., on September 15. Rainey received the Secretary’s Achievement Award for his work as part of a DOE committee to improve the effectiveness of the infrastructure that forms the foundation of the Department of Energy’s critical missions across the nation.

While participating in the Newport News Public School system’s 2016 SPARK program over the summer, staff from the Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility engaged students in team work, problem solving, and a deeper understanding of some math, science and engineering concepts – all while conducting a variety of hands-on activities and design challenges.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Work on computing the behaviors of the smallest bits of matter in the universe at the U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has just gotten a nod from Intel®, as the laboratory becomes the newest Intel® Parallel Computing Center. Jefferson Lab has also just installed its newest parallel computing cluster, featuring Intel® architecture, which is set to go into production in October.
