NEWPORT NEWS, VA – On Saturday morning, 15 high school teams from across the Commonwealth piled into the Jefferson Lab atrium for the 19th annual regional Science Bowl. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Science Bowl competition encourages students to excel in math and science, and to pursue careers in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The National Science Bowl® has been sponsored annually by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science since 1991. Since its inception, more than 300,000 middle and high school students have participated in tournaments around the country. The competition is meant to encourage students to excel in math and science and to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math. This event is free and open to the public and media.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has revised the date for its next open house event. Now, Virginia’s national laboratory plans to open its doors to the public for its next biennial open house event on Saturday, Sept. 12. The free event will offer an opportunity for people of all ages to explore this world-class research facility.

WASHINGTON, DC – Jefferson Sciences Associates (JSA) has announced the award of $449,000 to support projects related to education, outreach and career development to staff and scientific users at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab).
Jefferson Lab, located in Newport News, VA, is a world-leading nuclear physics research facility. More than 1,600 scientists from around the world use the lab’s unique particle accelerator to conduct experiments to expand our understanding of the visible universe.
