NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is thrilled to announce that registration is now open for the 2024-2025 Jefferson Lab Science Activities for Teachers (JSAT) program! This free after-school program, funded by the Jefferson Science Associates Initiatives Fund, is designed to enhance the skills of 5th, 6th and 8th grade middle school science teachers in the physical sciences.

The DOE’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility and Brookhaven National Laboratory are partnering to host one of the five awarded projects. The Big Data Science and Applications Summer School at Brookhaven and Jefferson Labs offers students an immersive experience in the latest computational science tools, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence applications in big data analysis.

2024 JSA Postdoctoral Prize Winner Debaditya Biswas will combine different particle identification methods with machine learning to detect muons hidden in a sea of pions
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – When Debaditya Biswas was a high school student in India, his math teacher, Dr. Satyabrata Das, sparked his interest in physics.
“Before I joined his class, I was really not sure what I was going to do in life,” said Biswas, a postdoctoral research associate at Virginia Tech. “He revealed the beauty of science to me.”
