    Physics

Hall A is preparing for a possible beam commissioning run to start on Dec. 12, pending the successful completion of the installation in Hall A. This will be minus the polarized proton target, but will allow commissioning and debugging of several new systems on the beamline, as well as the detector systems. Hall A is also finalizing a project management plan for the Super BigBite projects.

    12 GeV Upgrade

The 12 GeV installation activities for the long shutdown scheduled to begin in May are under development. A weekly Long-Shutdown Planning meeting is being held to integrate the lab-wide installation schedule. With Beneficial Occupancy awarded for the Hall D Complex, ongoing installation work is being coordinated through the Hall D work coordinator.

    12 GeV Upgrade
The first of two new coldboxes for the new Central Helium Liquefier, CHL2, has been shipped. The C100-1 and C100-2 cryomodules continue to be used for beam operations; as of Feb. 27, they were operating at 85 Megavolts and 80 MV. All 10 cavity strings for the new cryomodules have been completed. Adjustments to the FY12 work plan continue in response to the reduction in FY12 funding relative to the baseline funding profile.

    12 GeV Upgrade
The performance of the C100 cryomodule has now been successfully demonstrated at 104 Megavolts for more than one hour. Preparations are complete for a test at 108 MV with full beam loading this week. Assembly of the sixth C100 has been completed. Installation of the compressors and 4.5 Kelvin coldbox for the Central Helium Liquefier-2 continues. The beam position monitors for arc 10 are ready for installation. The first-article electronics for the stripline beam position monitors passed acceptance testing.
