  • A new physics era at 12 GeV
    January 29, 2015

  • A little less than a year ago, I wrote a Montage article entitled Spring Challenges. I could almost have used the same title for this article and, indeed, there have been a number of developments over the past few months that could merit comment. Nevertheless, at a laboratory like ours, there has to be a focus on running the accelerator for physics, and so that becomes the lens through which life is viewed.

  • Over the past nearly two years, there has been enormous activity, a burst of construction, close to the laboratory. For example we see the opening of the retail center dubbed Market Place@Tech Center and a flurry of other building very close to the laboratory.

What is going on? What does this mean for the lab? What does this mean for the electron-ion collider? These are a few of the questions that I am sure you have been asking yourselves, and they are certainly questions asked in various presentations to the Users Group and at All Hands meetings. In this note, I will try to provide an abridged response.

  • Message from Mary Logue - Reminder of Jefferson Lab Smoking Policy

This message is being sent on behalf of Jefferson Lab's Acting Chief Operating Officer, Mary Logue.

We continue to receive complaints from Lab staff that individuals have been smoking just outside of building doors and in lab owned equipment including carts. As a reminder, smoking (both traditional smoking products and vapor/electric cigarettes) is not permitted:

  • Occ Med Guidance: Returning to Work After a Respiratory Infection

    All,

In recent weeks I've noticed that many staff members were recovering from upper respiratory infections (usually a cold).  I've received questions about the criteria for safe return to work during convalescence from such illnesses.

  • Hall C Safety Awareness Training Updated: Current Training Expires Sept. 1

Due to the new configuration of Hall C, the Safety Awareness Training for the hall, SAF112, has been updated. This training will expire on Sept. 1 for anyone who last completed this training before May 1, 2016.

To take the updated training, first read the document at: https://hallcweb.jlab.org/safety-docs/current/ERG_HALLC.pdf

  • Jefferson Lab to Test Tornado Warning Siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3

Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3.  Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren may be heard by anyone within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.

Don't respond to the siren; this is a test of the siren system and not a personnel response exercise.

The test shouldn't last more than three-minutes.
