NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will conduct the monthly test of its tornado warning siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1. Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren could be heard by anyone within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.
The test will be carried out over a period that could last up to three minutes. The test will be of the wavering tone (also called high-low-high or 10-4-10).

Alice Perrin, a senior physics major at The College of William and Mary is the recipient of the 2014-15 Jefferson Science Associates Minority/Female Undergraduate Research Assistantship (JSA MFURA) at Jefferson Lab. Her assistantship project involves setting up a testing facility to measure the performance of 3D printed scintillators to be used in a particle detector.

The final match of the 2014 Virginia High School Science Bowl pitted Warwick High School, Newport News, against Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Alexandria, the long-standing Virginia Science Bowl champs. The team from TJHSST won the day and advanced to the national finals. A number of teams that didn't make it into the semi-finals participated in the Stay All Day design and engineering challenge.
