NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The newly upgraded accelerator at the U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has delivered full-energy electrons as part of commissioning activities for the ongoing 12 GeV Upgrade project. At 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, operators of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) delivered the first batch of 12 GeV electrons (12.065 GeV) to its newest experimental hall complex, Hall D.

Last week was very productive for the 12 GeV Upgrade project, with major achievements realized in both Halls B and C. In Hall B, the energization of the Torus magnet achieved full current of 3,770 Amps on Friday afternoon, Nov. 4. Mapping of the magnet field then commenced, and, once complete, the Torus will be powered down and installation of the remaining detectors will restart.

Nearly 50 current and former Jefferson Lab employees were recognized on Sept. 29, 2016, for inventions they created while carrying out their work at the lab – unique innovations that resulted in 39 patents.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will conduct the monthly test of its tornado warning siren at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren could be heard by anyone within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.
The test will be carried out over a period that could last up to three minutes. The test will be of the wavering tone (also called high-low-high or 10-4-10).

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Bill Rainey, an employee of Jefferson Lab was recognized by Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz in Washington, D.C., on September 15. Rainey received the Secretary’s Achievement Award for his work as part of a DOE committee to improve the effectiveness of the infrastructure that forms the foundation of the Department of Energy’s critical missions across the nation.
