The Gazette
The Gazette is the newsletter of the APS Committee on the Status of Women in Physics (CSWP) and the Committee on Minorities (COM). This newsletter is produced by volunteer writers and editors and has a circulation of over 2,000 copies per issue. Workforce diversity has been considered central to the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) objective of improving the nation's health through research, but a new report suggests that renewed efforts to increase diversity are needed. In the 19 August 2011 Science, Ginther et al. report that from 2000 to 2006, black grant applicants were significantly less likely to receive research funding than were white applicants.
