  • Jefferson Lab Hosts High School Science Bowl on Feb. 4


    NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Jan. 31. , 2012 - Some of the brightest young minds in the Commonwealth will meet at the Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab on Saturday, Feb. 4, to compete in the Virginia Regional High School Science Bowl.  Teams from 22 high schools from across the region are registered for this year's academic competition.

    What: Virginia Regional High School Science Bowl
    When: Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012. Round robin competition runs from 9 a.m. - noon. The double elimination, semi-final and finalist rounds run from 1:30 - ~ 5 p.m.  Awards presentations will be made immediately after the final round.

  • Jefferson Lab to Test New Siren Warning System on Tuesday Afternoon
    Newport News, Va., Dec. 5, 2011 - The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is installing a severe weather warning siren on its campus and will test the system for the first time on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 6. Depending on weather conditions at the time of the test, the siren could be heard by anyone outdoors within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab.

  • Speaker for Nov. 1 Lecture to Discuss Deadliest Viral Diseases


    NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 27, 2011 - A noted scientist will discuss some of the world's deadliest viruses as guest speaker at Jefferson Lab's Fall Science Series lecture to be held at the lab on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
    Susan Fisher-Hoch, a virologist and epidemiologist from the University of Texas School of Public Health will present: Studying Deadly Diseases.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The U.S. Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab is currently accepting applications for its science enrichment program for fifth-, sixth- and eighth-grade teachers of science.
    The after-school program, designed to increase teachers' knowledge of the physical sciences and strengthen their teaching skills, runs from September 2011 through May 2012 and is called Jefferson Lab's Science Activities for Teachers, or JSAT.
