    NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Sept. 9, 2008 – The U.S. Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab invites classes, groups and families to sign up now for one of its 2008-09 Physics Fests.
    The first Physics Fest for the 2008-09 school year will be Thursday, Oct. 2. The science events will be held periodically through May 13, 2009. Three Physics Fest dates have also been posted for summer 2009.

  • JLab Meadows Offer Environmental Benefits and Beauty


    Just two years after Facilities Management and Logistics staff proposed seeding about 6.5 acres of the Jefferson Lab campus with wildflowers, the lab is beginning to realize the benefits.
    One upside is a $6,500 reduction in annual maintenance costs, since the meadows blanketed with flowers no longer need mowing.

  • Jefferson Lab Website Offers Help For Virginia Standards of Learning Tests
    NEWPORT NEWS, Va., April 16, 2008 - Along with the return of warm weather and blooming flowers, another sure sign of spring is increased usage of the U.S. Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab Science Education website.
    Thousands of Virginia students swamp the website each spring because it features samples of the Virginia Standards of Learning tests, which students must take each spring.

  • Jefferson Lab Names New Safety Director
    NEWPORT NEWS, Va., April 9, 2008 - Mary K. Logue, an experienced safety professional responsible for the implementation of the Environment, Health and Safety program at the Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Facility, has been named as the associate director for Environment, Safety, Health and Quality division at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
    Logue, currently an associate section head for environment, safety and health at Fermilab, will begin her duties at Jefferson Lab on June 2.

    Washington, D.C., April 3, 2008 - Hugh E. Montgomery, a highly regarded nuclear physicist with an extensive research portfolio and broad international experience, today was named director of the Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
    Montgomery's appointment as the lab's third director was announced by Jefferson Science Associates, LLC, which manages and operates Jefferson Lab for DOE.

Twenty teams, representing high schools from across the region are registered for this year's academic competition.
