It's like our version of "Shark Tank" - Quark Tank! SLAM is short-talk competition challenging post-doc contestants to present a compelling 3-minute presentation on their research that a non-specialist can understand. The winner will be Jefferson Lab's representative that will compete against contestants from the sixteen other national labs on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 15. There, contestants...

Title: Electron Scattering Off Online-produced Radioactive Isotope - first results from RIKEN SCRIT e-scattering facility

Speaker: Toshimi Suda (Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan)

Abstract: In this seminar, I will present the results of the world's first electron scattering off an online produced radioactive isotope. This achievement was recently accomplished at the RIKEN SCRIT electron-scattering facility in Japan.

The SCRIT facility is designed to probe the internal structures of short-lived exotic nuclei by electron scattering. This facility employs...

Title: Meson-Meson Scattering At Large Nc

Abstract: The large Nc limit of QCD is a simplification of the theory of strong interactions that keeps most of its non-perturbative features and has been used by many phenomenological approaches to QCD. However, subleading Nc effects are hard to estimate and may lead to...

Both NP and HEP currently employ a two-programming-language approach, utilizing C++ for optimal performance and Python for its ease and speed in coding. However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable surge in interest regarding the adoption of a third language. Julia, a modern programming language that seamlessly combines fast execution with ease of coding, has garnered considerable attention.

The JuliaHEP 2023 workshop will have a hybrid format, with a lot of time for talks, discussions and tutorials. The in-person part of the workshop will take place at the Erlangen Centre...

Title: Lattice Design and Beam Dynamics Studies for PERLE

    Speaker: Alex Fomin, PERLE

Abstract: The PERLE (Powerful Energy Recovery LINAC for Experiment) collaboration is working on a high power (10 MW) energy recuperation linac facility with three acceleration (up to 500 MeV) and three deceleration passes. The objective of the project is to explore a broad range of accelerator phenomena and to validate technical choices improving accelerators efficiency in an unexplored operational power regime on the pathway of the ERL technology development for future...

  • A strong force in physics shows impact beyond the lab

With a passion for understanding how the universe works and a curious desire to unfold theories with logic, it’s no wonder that Patrizia Rossi ventured into physics and is now the deputy associate director for Experimental Nuclear Physics at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. With more than 35 years of research experience, her contributions to the scientific field are just as impactful beyond the lab.

  • Postdoctoral research associate builds on paradigm-shifting experiments

Burcu Duran is no stranger to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. She conducted research at the lab as a Temple University graduate student while working toward her Ph.D. in nuclear physics. Now, Ph.D. in-hand, she is continuing her research at Jefferson Lab as a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the University of Tennessee.
