    NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Jefferson Science Associates, the operations and management contractor for the Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, presented its fiscal year 2016 small business award to a small construction services firm from Hampton Roads.

  • Events Provide Parents with Opportunity to Learn About Resources
    NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Jefferson Lab teamed up with Outreach Services of the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) and the Va. Dept. for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) to conduct a series of informational and educational events across the Commonwealth for deaf and hard of hearing 4th-8th grade students and members of their families.
  • Washington, DC – Jefferson Sciences Associates announced today the award of eight JSA/Jefferson Lab graduate fellowships. The doctoral students will use the fellowships to support their advanced studies at their universities and conduct research at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) – a U.S. Department of Energy nuclear physics laboratory managed and operated by JSA, a joint venture between SURA and PAE Applied Technologies.

  • Washington, DC – Jefferson Science Associates, LLC, announced today that Charles Perdrisat and Charles Sinclair are the recipients of the 2017 Outstanding Nuclear Physicist Prize.
    Award citation: The 2017 JSA Outstanding Nuclear Physicist Award is jointly awarded to Charles Perdrisat for his pioneering implementation of the polarization transfer technique to determine proton elastic form factors, and to Charles Sinclair for his crucial development of polarized electron beam technology, which made such measurements, and many others, possible.
    The award will be presented to Perdrisat and Sinclair during a ceremony to be held at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) in Newport News, Virginia.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility is accepting applications for its 2017-18 science enrichment program for fifth-, sixth- and eighth-grade teachers of science.
    The after-school program is designed to increase teachers' knowledge of the physical sciences and to strengthen their teaching skills. It will run from September 2017 through May 2018 and is called Jefferson Lab Science Activities for Teachers, or JSAT.

  • NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has cancelled the monthly test of its tornado warning siren for today. The cancellation of the test is due to the severe weather moving across the region today, which includes a National Weather Service Tornado Watch that extends until 1 p.m. EDT. If you are in or near the Jefferson Lab vicinity and hear the tornado warning siren activate today, take cover immediately.
  • NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The first experimental result has been published from the newly upgraded Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at the U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The result demonstrates the feasibility of detecting a potential new form of matter to study why quarks are never found in isolation.
    The 12 GeV CEBAF Upgrade is a $338 million, multi-year project to triple CEBAF's original operational energy for investigating the quark structure of the atom's nucleus. The majority of the upgrade is complete and will be finishing up in 2017.

  • Thousands of Virginia students are expected to flock to Jefferson Lab's Science Education website in the coming weeks – just as they have done each spring for the past several years – as they prepare for the Virginia Standards of Learning examinations.
    Jefferson Lab’s website hosts the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Science and Math Practice Tests. Categories include the Math tests for grades 2 - 8, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, and the Science tests for grades 3, 5 and 8, Biology, Chemistry, and Earth Science. The SOL practice tests include SOL questions and answers provided by the Virginia Department of Education – from as recent as spring 2015, and going back to 2000.
