Usage of Jefferson Lab's Science Education website is climbing as students prepare to take the spring 2004 Standards of Learning tests.

Three members of the legendary, World War II era Tuskegee Airmen will speak at Jefferson Lab's Black History Month celebration at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19. The public is invited to the event.

The Dept. of Energy's Jefferson Lab Spring 2004 Science Series events begin Tuesday, February 24, with science writer Nigel Hey presenting "Worlds Beyond the Matrix." In his presentation, learn about the exploration of space and see images gathered by probes and telescopes. He will venture into topics ranging from "What do those huge canyons on Mars look like?" to "What is waiting for us on the surfaces of the other planets in our solar system?" He will discuss the technologies currently being used to explore the depths of space.

Some of the brightest young minds in the Commonwealth will come together at the Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab on Saturday, Feb. 7, to compete in the Virginia Regional Science Bowl. Twenty-three teams, representing high schools from across the state are participating in this annual academic competition. Nine schools from the Hampton Roads area will compete in this year's event.

The Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) in Newport News, Va., is hosting this year's Virginia Regional Science Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 7. Twenty-three teams, representing high schools from across the state are participating in this annual, academic competition, and nine schools from Hampton Roads are competing. The SAPHIR collaboration at the ELectron Stretcher Accelerator (ELSA) in Bonn, Germany, announced at the beginning of August evidence of the pentaquark from data they took in 1997/98. The SAPHIR collaboration announced evidence for Theta-plus with a mass of 1540 MeV and a width of less than 25 MeV, compatible with experimental results from SPring-8, ITEP and Jefferson Lab.
