November 10, 201012 GeV Upgrade
Delivery of the niobium cavities for the cryomodules has ramped up, with 34 of the final 86 now onsite. The vendor for the warm helium compressor skids needed for the new Central Helium Liquefier (CHL-2) has taken delivery of the compressors. The first 20 of the radiofrequency system’s waveguide circulators have arrived onsite. The first of the new 2.5 meter curved dipole magnets for the new west spreaders and recombiners have been shipped. Ion pump supplies for beamline vacuum are arriving in quantity. -

In Hall A, the installation for the upcoming run period is proceeding. The spectrometers were surveyed and various stands and platforms were installed. Work progressed on the cryogenic system, the water system and the power supplies. In general, the work is ahead of schedule. A Hall A staff position is open and is being advertised. -

At 21 weeks into the Six-Month Shutdown and with six weeks remaining, 12 GeV installation work is progressing as planned. Testing and commissioning of the first C-100 cryomodule is ongoing, and the second C-100 cryomodule has been installed and testing has begun. All 12 GeV activities during the shutdown period are integrated into the lab’s site-wide schedule, which is progressed weekly. -

Closeout reports with lessons learned are being developed for the Six-Month Shutdown in preparation for the next shutdown scheduled to begin in May 2012. The “Long Shutdown” planning team for JLab has been established. A range of 12 GeV installation activities will be incorporated into the labwide integrated installation schedule for the shutdown. Facilities Management & Logistics support is integrated with 12 GeV projects through the FM&L work order system and is coordinated weekly.

Extensive JLab Power Outage Over Holiday Shutdown
There will be a power outage for much of the JLab campus during the winter holidays/shutdown days, from 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, through 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1. For more information, see the full announcement in the Nov. 30 JLab Weekly Briefs.
