  • Regularly scheduled tornado siren test for March 1 has been canceled 

    NEWPORT NEWS, VA –  The U.S. Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has canceled the monthly test of its tornado warning siren this week. Instead, the lab will participate in the Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill scheduled by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) for March 7 at 9:45 a.m.  

  • Jefferson Lab's Target Group is responsible for the design, construction, and operation of most of the targets used in Jefferson Lab's four experimental halls.  These include large "cryotargets" of liquid hydrogen, some capable of dissipating hundreds of watts from the electron beam with little or no discernable boiling.  We are also experts in the field of dynamically polarized solid targets, which operate in extremely high magnetic fields and at temperatures less than a degree above absolute zero.  Some of the group's current and future targets are described below.

    HUGS 2024

    With support from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and Jefferson Science Associates (JSA), lectures at the 39th Annual Hampton University Graduate Studies (HUGS) Program at Jefferson Lab are scheduled to run from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, June 14, 2024. Students will arrive at Jefferson Lab on Monday, May 27 and depart on Saturday, June 15.
